I would like to start by saying that right after I sent my last email, I received a call from the Assistants saying that President Torgan wants every trainer to baptize the first weekend with their Greenie. I asked to speak to president Torgan, and to my luck, he was in Salt Lake City being called as a seventy. Yes, his name was read as being called to the seventy, so President Torgan will be a seventy, and his first assignment is to be the mission President of the Portugal Lisbon Mission until the first of July.
So, on Monday elder White and I didn't get much done, we prayed and prayed to find out who needed to be baptized, and we had a feeling it needed to be a lady named Rosa. I was sort of scared as she has never had any lesson from us, but she had been to church without any invite for 3 weeks (each of our lessons fall through, I promise I don't just not worry about her) We only talked to her once in a door visit asking her to pray about baptism. On Tuesday I went to Bonfim with the Zone Leaders since Elder White was transferred and I didn't have a companion until Thursday.Elder Packard and I passed the house that evening and she wasn't there, but her son was. We left the restoration movie, and apparently in an earlier division Elder White left all of the pamphlets with her at the door. She didn't answer her phone. On Wednesday Elder gunter (another traniner) and I worked in my area during the day and went to his area to work in the night. She wasn't there and didn't answer her phone all day long. On Thursday, I went to lisbon to get Elder Fry, and told him that we had a really cool lady to mark for baptism this last weekend. I decided to trust that everything went ok. That night we passed her house, and knocked 2 times, and well . . . nothing. I told Elder Fry it was time to pray and ask god what we needed to do. I felt as if we should try one more time, but I sort of ignored that feeling (not a good idea). After the prayer elder Fry said, I think we need to knock one more time, so, we did. The door opened, and Rosa was there. we talked to her about baptism, and she said that she had been praying as we had asked her to, and she feels like this is what she wants to do. Then we started talking about Joseph Smith, and she said that she prayed, just like the pamphlet had said, and she KNOWS that Joseph Smith was a prophet of god. She then went onto explain the plan of salvation to us and the gospel of Jesus Christ. For almost 1.5 hours, she was teaching me. She then said she likes the gospel principles book better than the book of mormon, but that she is in 2nd Nephi and it is a lot harder to understand. She said she had read the word of wisdom pamphlet and stopped smoking when she put it down 3 days earlier. She was already married, so the law of chastity was easy, and her only question on tithing was what to do if she doesn't make any money, because she is a stay at home mom. We invited her for sunday, and she was sort of uneasy, so we prayed with her and after the prayer she said that god authorized the baptism this sunday. I had the priviledge of baptising her this last sunday. It is interesting how the lord works. Really, because of inspiration and faith of Elder fry for trying, just one more time, made all the difference.
That thursday elder fry taught the first lesson all by him self to Sandro. It is interesting how proud I was of him. I knew he tried his best, and he did it.
